Chayil Hyland

Chayil is a Junior in the Hotel School concentrating in Food and Beverage Operations and minoring in Inequality Studies. She is originally from Queens, New York and first fell in love with food by watching Ratatouille. After attending New York City’s only public culinary high school, she expanded her knowledge and passion for the hospitality industry while noting the disparities and inequalities she wanted to change. Since coming to Cornell, Chayil has seen a need for better representation of marginalized groups and has fallen in love with DE&I education. She has become increasingly passionate about the intersection between hospitality and diversity and how those in the industry can be the best version of themselves while including, uplifting, and recognizing marginalized identities She has worked in various restaurants and spent her last two summers at Union Square Hospitality Group and Eataly NYC.


Chayil was the HEC 96 Closing Cocktail Assistant Function Manager on the Culinary team, and in HEC 97, she was the People & Culture Assistant Director in charge of DE&I efforts. She is excited to apply her experiences and knowledge to contribute to making HEC the best ever!


Outside of HEC, Chayil is a Resident Assistant at Ujamaa Residential College, a Tenor Saxophone player in the Big Red Marching Band and is also Teaching Assistant for Intro to Wines. In her free time, she enjoys going for runs and watching The Price is Right!
